Profile 22 WER ‘A’ rated windows and high performance curtain walling have been installed into Stevenage Fire Station by Polar Windows as part of an overall refurbishment programme.
The Profile 22 Approved Window Contractor, Polar Windows was appointed to deliver the wholescale refurbishment of the fire station building, in partnership with the principal contractor, Art Contracts Limited.
The programme of work included removing old and failing steel windows and replacing them with Profile 22’s robust FI70 system in white, alongside installing SK200 low rise curtain walling system with red panels, to create an aesthetically appealing energy efficient building.
All works had to be carried out whilst the building was fully occupied on a 24/7 basis, at all times ensuring the refurbishment programme did not interfere with the daily operations of the Fire Station.
Rob Hawkins, Commercial Business Manager at Polar Windows said: “The success of the refurbishment project is down to the close working partnership of all parties involved, right from the specification to suit the specific needs of the project plan, through to final inspections and handover.
“Profile 22 windows and curtain walling are both easy to work with and meet all the necessary regulations and sustainability credentials as standard. The end result is a highly efficient multifunctional building, which is finished in the traditional RAL red to create the dramatic visual for a local fire station.”
Mark Gregory, Operations Manager at Art Contracts Limited added: “In today’s financial climate, it is often more cost effective to refurbish a building than start from scratch. This must be carefully approached by all parties to ensure works complement the existing building and here at the fire station, extra precautions had to be taken to avoid disruption to daily operations. This was successfully achieved through collaborative working and exceeded client expectations.”
Polar Windows is an Approved Window Contractor of Profile 22, the UK’s leading profile manufacturer. The fabricator was selected by Art Contracts Limited to install new windows at Stevenage Fire Station due to their extensive public sector related experience and a commitment to quality accreditations and recycling initiatives.
Andrew Reid Profile 22 Commercial Sales Director concluded: “Specification is key on a project like this which is why we offer a free design service to enable the windows and curtain walling to be designed to suit the style of the refurbishment. The result is a more pleasant working environment, where not only will the building retain heat more effectively, but will also ensure a quieter environment for fire officers.”
