Profile 22 launches first BIM object

Profile 22 is once more leading the charge on commercial support and initiatives with the launch of its first BIM Object. In Revit file format, the Object includes 2D and 3D product representations, information and data associated with its Fully Reversible 70mm window system. This development allows the product to be incorporated into a 3D model and its associated component database. The Object is available free direct from profile22.co.uk/commercial or via bimstore.co.uk/manufacturer/profile-22.

“With more than half of construction firms now using BIM this is a valuable and important investment for Profile 22,” comments Profile 22 commercial sales director, Andrew Reid. “Not only are we keen to support the future of the building and construction industry but we also want to ensure that Profile 22 customers can benefit and capitalise on the many opportunities that it brings.

“In creating BIM Objects we are ensuring that those who specify, fabricate and install our products are well positioned to win and secure Government contracts when BIM compliance is required in 2016. However, many architects are already requesting BIM Objects to help secure contracts over their competitors. It’s a tool that with early adoption is giving many a competitive edge.”

It has a cost effective WER A+ option, and can achieve a low u-value of 0.8 with triple glazing. Profile 22’s innovative Aeroframe technology also serves to advance the insulation of the profile and improve the window’s thermal efficiency, providing an insulated wall thickness of 5.5 mm acting as a honeycomb construction in the central cavity.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is set to revolutionise the procurement and management of the built environment. Forming part of its Construction Strategy published in May 2011 the Government announced its intention to require ‘…collaborative 3D BIM (with all project and asset information, documentation and data being electronic) on projects by 2016.’

In short, it will transform the way in which buildings, infrastructure, and utilities are planned, designed, built, and managed. Each BIM Object includes embedded product information and associated data to support the specification process and provide an audit trail for the components throughout the life of the building.
